The Safety Manager at our El Dorado facility is a strategic leader responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining a world-class safety culture. This role oversees all aspects of occupational safety, emergency preparedness, regulatory compliance, and security to ensure alignment with corporate goals and industry best practices.
The Safety Manager reports directly to the Responsible Care Manager and collaborates across departments to drive continuous improvement, accountability, and proactive risk mitigation. This role is pivotal in shaping the safety mindset of the organization and ensuring that every employee goes home safely, every day.
Primary Responsibilities:

- Drive transformative culture change related to safety and security policies, programs and field execution
- Develop and execute the site's strategic safety plan, aligned with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies including OSHA, DOT, DHS, and local emergency services
- Drive a proactive Safety-First culture, empowering all employees with stop-work authority and hazard recognition tools
- Oversee the development and implementation of site-wide safety programs including Behavior-Based Safety, Job Hazard Analysis, and Safe Work Permitting
- Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics; identify trends and lead corrective actions
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses; ensure timely closure of corrective actions
- Manage emergency response planning, training, and drills; ensure readiness of fire protection systems and equipment
- Collaborate with the Training Coordinator to ensure safety training is comprehensive, current, and effective
- Oversee contractor safety programs and ensure alignment with LSB standards
- Represent the site in corporate safety initiatives and cross-functional improvement teams
- Participate in budget planning and resource allocation for safety-related initiatives
- Provide leadership during crisis situations and serve as a key member of the site's emergency response team
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Fire Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field
- Minimum 10 years of progressive safety experience in chemical, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments
- Demonstrated leadership experience implementing strategic safety programs
- Experience with the fundamentals and implementation of a Behavior Based Safety (BBS) Program
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and DHS regulations
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and public speaking skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software systems
Experience Preferred: - Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent credential
- Experience with fire alarm systems, emergency response planning, and medical monitoring programs
- Skilled in root cause analysis (RCA) and incident investigation methodologies
Physical Requirements: Successfully pass annual physical examinations, hearing screening, pulmonary functions studies and respirator fit tests. Able to climb at least 3 flights of stairs without a break. Able to routinely push, pull, carry, and lift twenty-five (25) pounds up to 200 feet while performing norm unit operations. Able to climb vertical ladders, including caged ladders, and to work at heights more than 100 feet. Ability to respond in high stress situations (such as unplanned plant shutdowns or evacuations) without physical impairment.

This position deals with hazardous materials and/or industrial processes that can pose a risk to employees and the general public. This facility is required to comply with security standards under Department of Homeland Security (DHS) CFATS regulation 6 CFR Part 27.
